Pay-First Token Billing for Restaurants, Cafes and Sweet Shops
In a busy quick-service restaurant, cafe or sweet shop, the line moves faster when customers pay first, get a token, and collect their order when the number is called. Nobody waits at the counter while the kitchen cooks, and the cashier never has to remember who ordered what.
How the flow works
- The customer orders and pays at the billing counter.
- The receipt prints with a token slip at the bottom — tear along the "cut here" line and hand it over.
- The kitchen (or each counter) gets the order with the same token number.
- When the order is ready, the number shows on a TV and is called out.
- The customer hands in the token and collects the order.
One slip per station
When food comes from different places — tandoor, main kitchen, beverages, or in a sweet shop the mithai and namkeen counters — each place should get only its own items. With station-wise slips, the receipt carries one token slip per station with the same number, so the customer collects from each counter without confusion.
What you need
- A thermal receipt printer (58 mm or 80 mm). A printer with an auto-cutter can print each slip separately.
- Kitchen stations set up with the menu categories each one cooks.
- Optional: any TV or monitor with a browser for the token display.
Good practice
- Start tokens from 1 every day so numbers stay short and easy to call.
- Keep prices off the token slip — it is a pickup slip, not a bill.
- Mark tokens as collected so the display shows only orders still waiting.
- Keep billing working when the internet drops; offline tokens should not clash with online ones.
How it works in CoreAxis ePOS
Turn on Pay-first token billing under Token Board → Settings. Every counter bill gets the day's next token (per branch), printed under the receipt or as separate slips, one per station. A kitchen ticket (KOT) with the same number goes to the kitchen; when the kitchen marks it ready, the token turns ready on the Token Board and on the TV display, which can call it out in English or Hindi. The TV link works without a login and shows only token numbers. Bills made offline still get a token from the device's own series. Read the setup guide.
